The ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak, Dirang organized the prestigious “6th Yak Mela” at West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with the District Administration of Dirang Circle; 4th Battalion, ITBP Force, Dirang; 30th SSB, Dirang and Construction Committee 108 Mane, Mandala.
The Chief Guest, Shri Phurpa Tsering, MLA of Dirang, appreciated the ICAR-NRC’s efforts on promoting the Yak Husbandry and enriching the Yak farmers’ livelihood. He emphasized that this initiative has resulted in increasing Yak population in Arunachal Pradesh. Shri Tsering urged the Brokpas community for adopting the ICAR-NRC on Yak’s developed technologies.
The Guest of Honor, Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar encouraged the farmers for continuing the Yak farming to improve their livelihood. He also assured for extending his help and co-operation towards the higher education of the students of the region.
Earlier, Dr. P. Chakravarty, Director, ICAR-NRC on Yak highlighted the Yak Mela’s objective which aims to promote the scientific Yak husbandry practices in the country. The Senior Officials of ICAR and other Government Departments were also present during the occasion.
As per reports, more than 300 farmers of different pockets of West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh participated in the Mela.
