A World Bank Project Worth 30 crore Kick Starts at Vet Varsity

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has bagged a prestigious World Bank project to the tune of Rs. 30 Crore under National Agricultural Higher Education Programme of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. The project entitled ‘Improving Learning Outcome, Skill and Entrepreneurship at GADVASU” is first of its kind aimed to improve the competency and skill of undergraduate students apart from modernisation of classrooms. In this programme, university will organise various workshops/practical training programmes/visits to industries and other national and international institutes to inculcate the entrepreneurship among the students. The launch workshop was organised to initiate all the activities of the project.

Dr R.C Agrawal, ICAR-Deputy Director General (Education) and National Director, National Agricultural Higher Education Project was the Chief Guest for this workshop and Dr A.S. Nanda, the Vice-Chancellor presided over the function. The launch workshop was attended by UG students, faculty members and officers of the university. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Agrawal highlighted the importance of the project and urged all the students to become job provider rather than job seeker.

He informed that in this project the students will get a chance to improve their professional acumen by working in institutions of International repute. Dr. P.S. Brar, Dean College of Veterinary Science and Principal Investigator of the project opined that this project will bring a substantial improvement in teaching methodologies at undergraduate level. He asserted that it will improve the practical competency of students and inculcate the ethos and spirit of entrepreneurship amongst them.

Dr A.S. Nanda emphasized that relying on safe and secure jobs is not enough and one should step forward for creating new job avenues for others. Dr R C Agrawal witnessed various facilities of the university and appreciated scientists for their hard work for upliftment of education standards and livelihood of the farmers.
