Dr. L Murugan Visits Fisheries Farm in Reasi ( J&K ); Launches Vaccination Drive Against Lumpy Skin Disease

Dr. L Murugan, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Dairy, Animal Husbandry, and Information and Broadcasting, said today that the government is focusing on inland fish production, particularly in hilly areas, as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Campaign under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

The Minister made the remarks while visiting a fisheries farm and breeding centre in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district.

Murugan interacted with the fish farmers and handed out handouts during his visit. The Minister advised farmers to adopt cutting-edge technology in fish farming in order to compete and meet consumer and export demands, particularly in fresh water fish production.

Murugan went on to say that the government is encouraging inland fisheries such as recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) and fresh water fish. He also stated that the government is committed to promoting inland fishing in the country, with a particular focus on hilly areas.

The Minister stated that for the first time in eight years, an investment of Rs. 32,000 crore has been made in the fisheries sector since 2014.

He went on to say that PMMSY is the Prime Minister's dream project, and that the Central Government is working closely with state governments to make it a reality. The minister also launched a vaccination drive against Lumpy Skin Disease in the district's Jyotipuram Gaushala. The Animal Husbandry Department organised the drive.
