Features of eggs

Duck eggs are larger than chicken eggs. They weigh 10-20 grams more than a chicken egg. A duck egg can be expected to weigh about 65 grams to 75 grams. Duck eggs are slightly dull in color. It is estimated that a duck egg provides 70 grams of food with white and yolks of eggs.

Whites (albumin) make up 60 percent, yolks 30 percent, and eggshell 10 percent. Excluding eggshell, an egg weighing 70 g contains 49.6 g of water. It contains an average of 1.0 grams of starch, 8.97 grams of meat, 9.63 grams of fat, 0.8 grams of minerals, and 130 kcal of energy. Duck eggs contain minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and sodium. Vitamin A levels are also higher in duck eggs. In short, duck eggs are the most nutritious.

This creates a good demand for duck eggs in the market. The eggshell has a good thickness compared to chicken eggs. (0.53 mm). So it can be handled effortlessly without breaking the egg. Due to the thick shell of the duck egg, the inner fluid of the duck egg is not lost. Atmospheric air does not enter. So they can be stored for a long time without any damage.

Duck Meat

Duck meat is a traditional delicacy of the people of South India. Duck Roast and Duck Stew are the main dishes. Especially Kuttanadan ducks, Kerala's own breed, account for 68% by the weight of edible meat. Duck contains 48.5 percent water, 11.49 percent calcium, 39.34 percent fat, and 0.68 percent potassium. The Indian Council of Medical Research recommends that an average person's diet should contain at least 37 grams of meat a day. But a single person is getting only 18.75 grams of meat on a daily basis. This means that only half of the required meat is produced here. This gap between demand and production is illustrated by the potential in the duck breeding sector.

Duck rearing

Duck rearing in India has not been so extensive and developed as compared to the poultry sector. Nowadays, everyone is not interested in fertilizers in agriculture. Interested in organic fertilizers. These are the favorable factors for duck rearing. Duck dung entering the fields is a good organic manure for paddy cultivation. In addition, ducks play an important role in biological pest control in the fields. At the same time, duck farming helps in increasing the fertility of the soil. About 70% of duck farming is in fish stocks. Paddy, duck and fish farming are three interrelated agricultural activities.

White Pekin, Aylesbury, and Vigova Super M broilers are breeds that we can grow profitably in the deep litter system. They have high immunity and the emphasis is on commercial selection.
