In the spirit of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat,' an evolutionary trip of 'Sagar Parikrama' is being planned along the coastal belt to exhibit solidarity with all fisherfolk, fish farmers, and stakeholders concerned.

According to the announcement, the 'Sagar Parikrama' tour will focus on creating a sustainable balance between the utilization of marine fisheries resources for national food security and livelihoods of coastal fisher communities, as well as the conservation of marine ecosystems.

The "Sagar Parikrama" initiative, according to Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy Parshottam Rupala, will target to recognize "difficulties, observations, and aspirations of fishermen community," examine the range of seafood exports, and popularise strategies that the fishing community in coastal areas can take advantage of.

The minister spoke during a press conference on Friday to start the initiative.

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy, as well as the National Fisheries Development Board and department of fisheries of Gujarat Govt., the Indian Coast Guard, the Fishery Survey of India, the Gujarat Maritime Board, and fishermen representatives, will organize "Sagar Parikrama," which will begin on March 5 in Mandvi and end on March 6 in Porbandar, via Okha in Devbhoomi Dwarka.

While the program will be held in states with coastline, Gujarat will be the first to participate.

"Our goal is to go to fishing harbors, landing places, and fishing locations around the country, not only to ports," Rupala added.

To create a "fishing village" cadre, analogous to the "vibrant village" cadre, we will examine the situation in such villages, determine the expectations of the fisher community, and fill the gap between their ambitions and their realities.
