Three Day International Workshop on ‘Elements of Research’ Concludes at GADVASU

A three-day international workshop on “Elements of research: Defining, designing and structuring a research problem” was concluded with an eventful note at the College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana last Saturday. The workshop which was organized in collaboration with the University of Saskatchewan, Canada started from 16th to 18th Oct and inaugurated by Dr. J.P.S Gill, Director of Research, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU).

A three-day international workshop on “Elements of research: Defining, designing and structuring a research problem” was concluded with an eventful note at the College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana last Saturday. The workshop which was organized in collaboration with the University of Saskatchewan, Canada started from 16th to 18th Oct and inaugurated by Dr. J.P.S Gill, Director of Research, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU). 

During the inaugural address, Dr. Gill congratulated the organizing team for this endeavor and hoped that it would be helpful for the postgraduate students to boost their research skills from planning their research projects in writing reports. This three-day workshop concluded at the School of Public Health and Zoonoses.  

Dr. JPS Gill informed that overseas speakers from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, University of Sydney, Australia and US Department of Agriculture, (USDA) had also participated and delivered their lectures on the fundamentals and designing of research as well as how to report research findings.

Moreover, Dr. Emily Jenkins talked about the qualities of a successful postgraduate student on the inaugural day while Dr. Peter Thompson from USDA discussed the approaches for the effective reading of research articles.   

Dr. RS Aulakh, Director, School of Public Health, and the coordinator of this workshop, informed that there will be hands-on practice on study design, sample size estimation and quantitative and qualitative analysis of research images. He further informed that GADVASU and the University of Saskatchewan signed an MOU to promote, strengthen and expand mutual contacts and collaborative research activities between both the universities. Organizing workshops and summer/winter schools is an integral part of these collaborative activities. More than 60 postgraduate students from various departments of GADVASU are attending this workshop and will take benefits from this workshop.  

At the conclusion, Dr. AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU congratulated the School of Public Health & Zoonoses for this endeavor and hoped that the participants will apply the skills learned in the workshop in their research work.
