The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences (GADVASU) had organized a training program on “Systematic Interpretation of Radiographs for Veterinary Practitioners” for veterinary practitioners / surgeons from Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat. The training program was funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Dr. Jitender Mohindroo, Professor-cum-Head was the course Director while Dr. Vandana Sangwan and Dr. N. Umeshwori Devi were the course co-ordinators for this training program.
Dr. Mohindroo told that the current training program was conducted under the Human Resource Development component of All India Network Project on “Diagnostic Imaging and Management of Surgical Conditions in Animals”. Since 2018 the department is organizing short training programs on various aspects to upgrade the skill enhancement of veterinary practitioners under this program.
This training course was designed to meet the objective of accurate interpretation of radiographs in small animals. Lectures and hands on practice on the various aspects of veterinary radiology like radiographic positioning, radiographic view & selection of radiographic exposure factors for obtaining good quality radiograph were delivered by the faculty of the department. Interpretation of important radiographic lesions of various body systems such as skull and spine, bone and joints, lungs, mediastinum, heart, abdominal organs and contrast radiographic techniques were discussed in details.
It is important to mention that department has world class facilities for diagnostic imaging in small animals and very recently a high capacity (1000mA) Digital X-Ray machine has been added to the radiology unit which was funded by the Department of Science and Technology (India). Due to increase in awareness and the trend to keep pets and companion animals, the pet owners demand quality services for diagnosis and treatment of their beloved pets.
Dr S.S. Singh, Hospital Superintendent presided over the concluding function and distributed certificates to the participants. He congratulated the faculty for conducting such continuing education programs frequently for upgradation of knowledge and skills of the faculty, students, government and private veterinarians.
