Chhath Puja 2022: From Arghya to Kharna, Know Everything About The 4-Day Festival

The Chhath Puja this year will begin on October 28 across the country. During the Chhath Puja Mahaparv, Lord Surya and Chhathi Mata are worshipped on the Shashthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the Kartik month.

The puja or worship will start on October 28 (Friday) and run through October 31 (Monday). Both men and women do a full 36-hour waterless fast during Chhath Puja in order to ensure the well-being and longevity of their children & family.

Arghya is offered on the first day, Kharna on the second, the setting sun on the third, and the rising sun on the fourth on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Kartik month. After that, the fast is over.

Chhath Puja 2022: Day 1

A bath is taken to start the first day. On the day of "Snan," women clean the house after taking the bath because this fast calls for additional attention to cleanliness. On the day of bathing, every home prepares gram dal (chana dal), gourd vegetables, and rice in the form of prasad. There is only rock salt in these dishes.

Chhath Puja 2022: Day 2

The second day of Chhath Mahaparva is known as Kharna. This year, Kharna falls on October 29. On this day, women who are fasting prepare jaggery kheer as prasad. After eating it at night, it is distributed as prasad to neighbors and friends. After this, the 36-hour fast begins.

Chhath Puja 2022: Day 3

The third day of Chhath Puja begins with offering arghya to the setting sun at sunset. Male and female fasting can perform Arghya while standing in a river, pond, or even at home.

Chhath Puja 2022: Day 4

On the fourth day, arghya is offered while standing in the fasting water to the rising sun. After this Chhath Puja is complete. Then the fast is broken.

Sunrise time - 6.31 am in the morning

Both men and women who are fasting in Paran will begin their fast with full ceremonies after the archana is over.
