Mawlynnong – Meghalaya (The cleanest village in Asia) 

Just a 100 km drive from Shillong is the cleanest village of Asia. This city is well connected with shilling city with good roads. It is absolutely breathtaking during monsoons. 

 How to reach?  Neighboring cities include Shillong and Cherapunji, you can take bus or drive from these cities. Nearest airport is located in Shillong while nearest railway station is in Guwahati which is 172km away from main village. 

Maujuli – Assam (The world’s largest River Island) 

Maujuli has a lush green environment and huge variety of flora and fauna and is famous for its vibrant culture. It is the world’s largest river island and is situated on Brahmputra River.  

How to reach? The nearest town to Maujuli is Jorhat which is connected by bus, train and even has a airport. You will need to take a ferry from Jorhat to reach Maujuli. 2 ferries leave from Jorhat to Maujuli at 10 am & 3 pm. 

Kasol - Himachal Pradesh (The Amsterdam of India) 

Kasol is a hamlet in Himachal Pradesh situated along the banks of river Parvati. It is also referred as Amsterdam of India. It specially attracts trekkers, backpackers and nature lovers. It is home to beautiful landscapes and picturesque views. 

 How to reach? Kasol is accessible by excellent road facility. The NH-3 is the main road leading to this village towards Manali. The nearest airport is Kullu Manali Airport and nearest railway station is Joginder Nagar railway station which is 144km away from Kasol. 

Ziro – Arunanchal Pradesh (The Peace Seekers Paradise) 

Ziro is home to the Apa Tani tribe and is famous for the Annual Ziro Music Festival held in Ziro valley. It is a 4 day occasion of aboslute music revelry and is organized by Apatani Tribe itself. Apart from this you can enjoy the beauty of Pine Hills and rice fields that surround this town. Ziro has a mild climate which makes it comfortable to travel all year around. It is also shortlisted as world heritage site. 

How to reach? Ziro is 110 km away from Itanagar, is well connected with all major means of transport with other parts of India. However, most convenient way to reach here would be to take a train to North Lakhimpur or Naharlagun, then hire a taxi to Ziro. 

Idukki- Kerala (Spice Garden of Kerala) 

Idukki has it all – cool breeze, waterfall, lush green mountains- basically everything that a nature lover craves for! 

How to reach? 

Idukki is accessible by roads as it has a wide network of roads. NH-49 is the national highway that passes along this place. The nearest airport is the Cochin International Airport, which is 130 km away and the nearest railways station is Theni, 60 km away. 

Yana – Karnataka 

Yana is a must visit for pilgrims, nature lovers and those who like activities such as hiking and trekking. It is famous for gigantic crystalline-like rock formations that stand tall among the evergreen forests of the Western Ghats. 

How to reach? Yana is connected to Bangalore (410 km away) via NH-4; the nearest airport is Hubli and railway station is Kumta. 

Matheran Maharashtra (The Vehicle Free village) 

Matheran is situated in the Sahyadri range on the Western Ghats, present at an elevation of 2600 feet above sea level and is only 100 kms away from Mumbai. There are no vehicles allowed in Matheran at all. The cold breeze and fresh pollution free environment gives all the reasons for tourists to visit this place. 

How to reach? All the vehicles are parked 2.5 km away from the town of Matheran and from there you will either have to trek or take a horse or rickshaw to cover the distance. The nearest Airport is the Mumbai airport and railway station is 21 km away at Neral. 

Diskit Village – Ladakh

It is located in the remote areas of Ladakh, along the banks of river Shok. It is surrounded by majestic Mountains.

How to reach? The nearest airport is the Leh Airport at a distance of 116 km. To reach by road you can take the Manali- Leh highway.

 

Agatti – Lakshadweep  

Famous for the water sport activities, this little village is located in Lakshadweep Islands surrounded by beautiful sea. It has amazing aquatic diversity- corals. You can enjoy scuba diving, sailing, snorkeling, glass bottom boat tours, kayaking, fishing and water skiing. 

How to reach? It is best to visit this via airplane. The airport is located in the union territory of Lakshadweep. There is only a single airline ‘Air India (Regional)’ which provides services in this airport. You can also take a cruise to come here. 

Valparai Village - Tamil Nadu

Visiting Valparai will be one of most enjoyable experiences you will ever have. May to September is the best time to visit this village.

How to reach? Major cities near Valparai are Coimbatore, Pollachi,and Ernakulam. The closest airport and railway station is Coimbatore.
