Meteorological Centre conducts observations, communications, forecasting, and weather forecasting. It also uses the IRS series and the Indian National Satellite System (INSAT) for weather monitoring of the Indian subcontinent in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organization.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has expressed appreciation for the Ranchi center's performance in providing weather-related information to its stakeholders in a timely manner and with a higher accuracy rate, the official said.
Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences, presented the award to Abhishek Anand, the Ranchi Meteorological Centre's in-charge, at a ceremony to mark the 148th founding day of IMD on Sunday in New Delhi.
Anand claimed that out of 28 states and six regional centres nationwide, the Ranchi centre had been deemed the best in a phone interview with PTI. "We were recognized for a number of factors, from instruments to forecasts. In one year, there were 132 stations that collected daily rainfall data, up from 81.
Up to 20 automatic weather stations are in operation. Additionally, traffic smart boards in Ranchi offer weather updates, the man said. A weather warning was sent to 2.5 users' mobile phones on June 25 of last year, which the official called a "big accomplishment."
We also did well with our contributions to the agriculture and aviation industries, according to Anand. In the fiscal years 2023–2024, the Ranchi weather office hopes to acquire Doppler radar, which would enable it to offer a more precise and timely forecast, he said.
