How to Make Super Nutritious Drumstick (Sehjan) Soup and Why You Should Consume it?

Drumstick, popularly known as Sehjan, is considered as a wonder-vegetable due to its innumerable health benefits. In Ayurveda, it is claimed that the consumption of this vegetable can treat approximately 300 diseases! It has more seven times more Vitamin C than an orange, four times more Vitamin A than carrots, four times more calcium than milk, three times more potassium than bananas, three times more protein than curd and the list goes on!

Another thing that will astound you about drumstick is that every part of it is eatable and can be cooked in different ways. From its roots to flowers to leaves to pods to stems and even its gum, you can eat every part of it. Among many other dishes made with the drumstick, its soup is considered to be the healthiest and a tastier way to consume it. Here we present the benefits of consuming drumstick soup and the best way to cook a nutritious bowl of drumstick soup.

How to Make Super Nutritious Drumstick Soup 


  • 2 cup of water

  • 4-5 drumstick pods (Sehjan ki falli)

  • A few leaves of drumstick plant

  • Salt & pepper (to taste)


  • Cut the drumstick pods into several small pieces.

  • Take two cups of water and keep it to a boil on low heat. When the water starts boiling, put the pieces of cut drumstick pod in it. You can also add drumstick leaves in it.

  • When the water reduces to half, switch off the flame. Squeeze the pulp from inside the drumstick and mix it with the soup, remove the outer skin of the pods.

  • Add some salt and pepper as per taste. Serve hot.
