Protein plays the role of the most important nutrient for an ideal weight loss diet. It is a nutrient that is satiating in nature and is also important for maintaining muscle mass, while shedding weight. Lean proteins from poultry, fish and plant-based proteins can be recommended for weight loss.

The best and most widely used plant-based protein in India comes from gram flour or chickpea flour or besan. Second commonly consumed source of high quality protein is paneer or cottage cheese.

Today we will tell you about a breakfast recipe that combines these proteins in a high-power weight loss friendly dish called as paneer besan chilla.

Gram Flour (Besan) Nutritional Profile:
A 100 gm portion of gram flour contains 22 gm of protein and 11 gm of fibre (according to data by United States Department of Agriculture). The same quantity also contains zero cholesterol and good amounts of potassium, iron, Vitamin B-6 and magnesium. Hence, besan is the best choice for a healthy diet.

Cottage Cheese (Paneer) Nutritional Profile:
It contains 11 gm of protein per 100 gm portion (as per USDA data), very low in calories (just 98 calories per 100 gm cheese) and is objectively delicious. Also, it is rich in calcium, sodium and potassium.

How to prepare Paneer Besan Chilla?

  1. First take besan, salt, black pepper, onion, grated paneer, tomato, green chillies, ajwain and coriander leaves in a bowl. Now, mix all the ingredients together.

  2. You can add water to this mixture to get a more liquid consistency of the batter. One must add sufficient water to make chilla batter runny, but don't make it too dilute.

  3. Now, take a non-stick pan, put it on a low-medium flame and add some ghee or butter to it. One must place some chilla batter on the pan carefully and cook it until it turn golden brown and crisp.

  4. After a few minutes, flip the chilla and toast it on the other side. Add more ghee/oil if required.

  5. Place some grated cottage cheese, chopped coriander leaves, salt and pepper filling inside the chilla, fold it and cook for sometime.

  6. Your delicious recipe is ready now. You can remove from heat and serve it hot with tomato sauce or chutney.
