Crystal, which is primarily an agro-chemicals company, has diversified into seeds and agri-equipment businesses. With the vision to serve the farming community, Crystal is focused on research and development in this space.  Crystal has its own research and development centre, focusing on molecule synthesis, formulations research, process development and bio-efficacy testing and has four manufacturing units — two in Haryana and one each in Jammu and Hyderabad besides a green field project . Established agrochemical company, Crystal Crop Protection Limited. ('Crystal'), known for its range of insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, plant growth regulators and bio-stimulants, today, launched a basket of goodies for farmers that are aimed at improving productivity for Indian farmers.

Since India is one of the largest producers of rice worldwide, the launch of Azotrix and Penoxa comes as a boon for the Indian paddy farmers. These products are a result of Crystal's strong R&D capabilities that focus on improving the productivity and profitability of the Indian farmer.

Keeping in mind farmers' challenges, Crystal's R&D has brought these products enabling farmers to improve farm profitability. Key products launched are as follows -

Fungicide - Fungicide is a growing segment and Crystal's new product will give control on diseases

1. Azotrix, a patented fungicide to control blast in paddy crop

2. Pluton, a patent applied fungicide for tomatoes

Herbicide - Due to increasing labour shortage in the field, herbicides have gained prominence. Crystal launched two herbicides -

1. Penoxa, a herbicide for broad spectrum control of weeds in paddy crop

2. Penadril Plus, a herbicide for range of crops like cotton, chilli and soybean

Insecticide - Insecticides account for more than half of the total pesticides market and this year Crystal has introduced three insecticides for Indian farmers -

1. Neo Super, a multipurpose insecticide

2. Lunox, an insecticide to control hard to kill lepidopteran pests

3. Umpire, a combination insecticide for sugarcane

These products aim higher yield and more profits to farmers.

With its latest offerings, Crystal hopes to strengthen its presence across India. The company in the last three years has launched various products improving the landscape of Indian farming.

Speaking on the utility of these products, Mr Ajit Shankhdhar, National Sales Head, Crystal Crop Protection Limited. said, "As a farmer-centric company, we are delighted to bring these products which are going to benefit farmers. They are effective and affordable and will help farmers protect their crop and improve yield. We value our farmers, they are our Annadata. We are launching these products to help them become more prosperous."

Azotrix, a patented fungicide is the result of Crystal's own R&D. Azotrix would give farmers a weapon against blast infestation in paddy crop which is one of India's main crops. It will benefit paddy farmers, helping them in increasing their income with new cutting-edge technology. The launch of Azotrix also makes Crystal's crop offering more robust.

Pluton which is under patent consideration would be targeting effective control of fungus in tomatoes.

Alto, a graminicide, will enable farmers to control narrow leaf weeds in broad leaf crops.

Also, in Crystal's basket of farmers' goodies is Penoxa, a herbicide for broad spectrum control of weeds in paddy crop.

Elated on the launch of these products Mr. C. S. Shukla, Crystal's Senior Vice President, Marketing, said, "Crystal has been focused on providing complete farm solutions to farmers, from sowing of the seeds to harvest. Our close engagement with farmers keeps us alive to the challenges faced by them. We do R&D with direct feedback from the ground to bring them the best possible products. These new products are part of the integrated crop solutions being promoted by Crystal and will make our offerings to farmers more robust. They will enhance Crystal's brand value as an established agrochemical that believes in bringing innovative solutions to farmers."

Swiss-based agri-business firm Syngenta sold some part of its seed business in India to Crystal Crop Protection for an undisclosed amount.

The national capital-based Crystal Crop Protection today announced the acquisition of certain seed and fodder business from Syngenta India.

Syngenta's decision to sell part of its seed business comes in the wake of government's control over Indian seed market by fixing maximum sale price and royalty value for the technology provider.

"The company has acquired Indian grain sorghum, fodder sorghum (SSG) and pearl millet seeds business including their germplasms, plant variety protection applications and registrations and market authorisations from Syngenta," Crystal Crop Protection said in a statement.

The company has also acquired seed brands Mahalaxmi (Sorghum), Atheeva (Pearl Millet) and SX-17 (SSG), it said.

"Syngenta is divesting the pearl-millet, sorghum and fodder business to bring stronger focus and synergy to its core diversified field crop and vegetable seeds strategy," Syngenta India, South Asia Vice President (Business Sustainability) K C Ravi said in a separate statement.

Crystal Crop will now have strong breeding program in all its focus crops -- cotton, maize, rice, grain sorghum, pearl millet and SSG, he added.

"We believe in taking technology, innovation and manufacturing to the next level. With acquisition of seeds from Syngenta, we will strengthen our seed portfolio," Crystal Crop Protection Managing Director Ankur Aggarwal said.

Crystal Crop has made a number of acquisitions in past few years. In the last fiscal, the company had acquired a speciality chemicals plant from Cytec India Specialty Chemicals and Materials Pvt Limited, an Indian unit of Belgian chemicals firm Solvay SA.

In 2016, it had signed an agreement with Germany's BASF SE to acquire fungicide brand Bavistin, while in 2011 the company had acquired Hyderabad-based company Rohini-Seeds and Rohini Bioseeds and Agritech Private.

The company said these acquisitions are part of its strategy to add value to its business.
