African Youth Climate Action Summit, also known as AYCAS, is going to be held at Abuja, Nigeria in 2020. The summit will be stretched over a period of three days, i.e., 27th - 29th June 2020. The summit is organized by the Global Youth Climate Action Initiative (Climate Action Group).
One of the keynote speakers in the summit, Professor Nabhit Kapur, an eminent personality in the field of Mental Health, who is also a Doctor of Psychology, will be talking about the topic 'Extreme Weather Takes a Toll: A Mental Health Perspective'.
AYCAS 2020 will be showcasing new initiatives by governments, businesses, startups, scientists and civil society to increase their commitments to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and work towards bringing down emissions to essentially zero by mid-century. With a vision to bring together young activists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and change-makers that are focused to address the global climate emergency, this summit is a platform to hold discussions over issues concerned with climate change and how it is going to impact the humankind.
This year, the outlook of the summit will be action-oriented, intergenerational, and inclusive. The summit is a platform for encouraging inclusiveness as it provides equal representation to young leaders from all walks of life. The event will also give the African Governments, youth and civil society, and businesses a forum to demonstrate what they are doing to reduce emissions by at least 45 percent by 2030 and to achieve a target of attaining carbon neutrality by mid-century.
Many African experts in the field of climatology will be discussing the climate change complexity and mitigation of impacts at the regional and global levels. In the summit, the stress will be given on the role of entrepreneurs in developing the technologies, business models and services that can help in reducing emission, and are climate-resilient and sustainable.
