Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on 11 December 2017 announced opening for two Agricultural Officer (Ecosystem services and agro ecology). The post is located in the Agro ecology Team. The Agroecology team provides technical and policy support and guidance to countries aimed at maintaining and enhancing ecosystem services as essential components of sustainable farming systems through agroecology. The incumbent is part of a team of technical specialists that includes expertise on agroecology, pollinators, various aspects of agro-biodiversity and policy advice that emphasizes the focus on smallholders and family farmers and SDGs.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on 11 December 2017 announced opening for two Agricultural Officer (Ecosystem services and agro ecology). The post is located in the Agro ecology Team. The Agroecology team provides technical and policy support and guidance to countries aimed at maintaining and enhancing ecosystem services as essential components of sustainable farming systems through agroecology. The incumbent is part of a team of technical specialists that includes expertise on agroecology, pollinators, various aspects of agro-biodiversity and policy advice that emphasizes the focus on smallholders and family farmers and SDGs.

Technical and policy support to stakeholders in the planning, development and implementation of programmes, projects, products and services with focus on ecosystem services, agroecology and pollinators in accordance with FAO's Strategic Objectives and the 5 principles for Sustainable Food and Agriculture.

Key Functions

= Develops technical and policy analysis, assessments, monitoring and reporting frameworks, to support the maintenance and development of international instruments, innovative cross-sector approaches, new tools, technical reports, regional and national projects and programems and policy proposals related to ecosystem services, agroecology, and pollinators

= Respond to requests from member countries for policy and technical assistance, collaborate with decentralized offices, and support national processes.

= Promote international cooperation, advocate and contribute to scale up best practices, support policy dialogue, contribute to international processes including SDGs, CBD, related to the contribution of ecosystem services and pollinators to agroecology and sustainable food systems

= Collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams, FAO cross-departmental committees, project teams, family farming activities, working towards the transformation towards more sustainable and integrated agricultural and food systems for food security and nutrition for all.

= Participate in resource mobilization activities in accordance with the FAO Corporate Strategy.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements  

= Advanced degree in agriculture, agronomy or ecology, with emphasis on integrated and diversified systems including crop· production, agroforestry, crop-livestock systems, biodiversity, pollinators management, social processes for transformation towards sustainable agricultural production and food systems

= Seven years of relevant experience in agroecology, ecosystem management, sustainable agricultural production systems.

= Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian

Technical/Functional Skills

= Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable

= Extend of work in policy and international mechanisms or organizations related to agroecology, ecosystem services and pollinators.

= Extend and relevance of experience in sustainable management of ecosystem services, agrobiodiversity, and agroecological food systems with special focus on smallholder farming systems.

= Ability to analyze information as the basis for technical and policy advice for governments and inputs to international and intergovermental fora, programmes, goals.
