The last list of much-awaited National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam has been published at the website nrcassam.nic.in, ending the long process of years as well as the long waiting of millions of Assam residents who will now get to know whether they are actually an Indian or a ‘foreigner’.

But due to heavy traffic and massive searches, the website has crashed at the moment. People do not need to worry as the website will soon start working. Concern over the political sensitivity of the issue, there is tight security allotted across the state and a ban in place on assembly or gathering of more than four people in some public places considered sensitive.

Total 20,000 security forces have allotted across the whole state to tackle any severe situation.

Prateek Hajela, the State Coordinator of NRC, said,

“A total of 3,11,21,004 persons found eligible for inclusion in final NRC, leaving out 19,06,657 persons, including those who did not submit their claims. Those not satisfied with the outcome can file appeal before Foreigners Tribunals.”

The final list of NRC will decide the fate of around 41 Lakh people whose name were missing from the draft NRC list published last year.

The publication of the final NRC list is likely to stir up a huge gamut of reactions involving a large number of stakeholders. Keeping in view the sensitivity of the consequences, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has called upon the people of the state to maintain peace and tranquillity.

How you can check?

The list can be accessed both online and offline. You can check your name in the hard copies of the Supplementary List of Inclusions which will be available for public view at NRC Seva Kendras (NSK), offices of the Deputy Commissioner and offices of the Circle Officer during office hours. Online, the status of both inclusion and exclusion can be viewed online on the NRC website. People can check their names online using the Application Receipt Number (ARN).
