The Delhiites can now get their birth, caste certificates or even renew their driving licenses from home with the AAP government’s ambitious ‘doorstep delivery of public services’ scheme. Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal while launching the scheme said “so far people only got pizzas delivered to their house, but now they can make one phone call to the government and a representative will be sent to their house to get the work done”. The government executives believe that the scheme will also help in controlling corruption.
In the first phase, government has offered 40 public services, which includes issuance and renewal of driving licenses, birth, death and caste certificates, new water connection, registration of marriage etc. To avail this facility “A person needs to call at ‘1076’ and a government official will visit his house. Then he can fix an appointment up to 10 pm. The form will also be delivered to his house and all this will cost him just Rs 50”.
50 ‘call lines’ with 70 ‘mobile sahayaks’ were employed in the beginning but seeing the overwhelming response to the doorstep delivery scheme, the government has increased the call lines to 300. The number of mobile sahayaks has also been increased to 300. Government plans to include 150 services in this scheme soon.
