Every year Bhai dooj falls on the fifth day of Diwali, in the month of Kartik. This year it is going to be celebrated on November 14 and 15.

Bhaidooj, also known as Bhaubeej, Bhai Phonta, or Bhratri Dwitiya, is observed on the fifth day of Diwali. Falling on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 14 and 15. It marks an important occasion to celebrate the special bond between brothers and sisters.

The auspicious muhurat for Bhai Dooj begins on November 14th, according to the Drik Panchang. Starting at 01:10 pm and lasting for over two hours, till 3:19 pm, it is a time for sisters to perform rituals and offer prayers for the well-being and prosperity of their beloved brothers.

Bhai Dooj 2023 Significance

During Bhai Dooj, sisters adorn their brothers' foreheads with a tilak or vermilion mark. They perform an aarti using a delightful thali filled with sweets, roli, and a coconut. The celebration includes indulging in mouthwatering delicacies and exchanging tokens of affection as gifts.

Bhai Dooj Historical Relevance

Bhai Dooj holds a significant legend involving the god Yama and his sister Yamuna. As the story goes, Yama visited Yamuna on the day of Dwitiya in the Kartik month. Touched by love and devotion, Yamuna performed an aarti and applied a tilak on Yama's forehead. In return, Yama bestowed a boon upon her. According to the boon, whoever receives a tilak and aarti from their sister on this day would be protected from the hardships of the afterlife. This legend beautifully represents the strong bond between siblings and the exceptional importance of Bhai Dooj in safeguarding brothers from adversity.


This year Bhai Dooj will be celebrated for a span of two days starting from November 14 and ending on November, 15.
