What is Swamitva Scheme?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will start the Swamitva Yojana today. Under this scheme, about one lakh property owners will be able to download the cards related to their property via SMS link on their mobile phones. This scheme was announced by the PM on National Panchayati Raj Day in the month of April. Under this scheme, PM Modi will distribute property cards under the ownership scheme to land-owners through video conferencing as part of major reform efforts for the change in rural India.

Under this, about one lakh real estate owners will be able to download property cards from the link received through SMS on their mobile phones.

Who are Included?

According to the PMO, the beneficiaries are from 763 villages including 346 from Uttar Pradesh, 221 from Haryana, 100 from Maharashtra, 50 from Uttarakhand, 44 from Madhya Pradesh and 2 from Karnataka. Beneficiaries from all the states except Maharashtra will get physical card within a day, says reports. On the other hand, the land owners of Maharashtra may take a month time to get the property card, as the Maharashtra Government arranges to apply the normal fee for the property card.

About the Program

The program will begin at 11 am where PM Modi will interact with some of the beneficiaries. The Union Minister of Panchayati Raj will also be present on this occasion. With this scheme, land-owners will be able to use their property as a financial asset. It can be used for other financial benefits including application of loan.
