Centre Approves Construction of 16,488 More Houses under PM Awas Yojana; Know How to Apply

On 16th August (Monday) the central government has approved the construction of 16,488 houses in urban areas under ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-U)’. The ministry has issued the statement while giving this information. The total number of houses sanctioned so far is more than 1.13 crore.

On 16th August (Monday) the central government has approved the construction of 16,488 houses in urban areas under ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-U)’. The ministry has issued the statement while giving this information. The total number of houses sanctioned so far is more than 1.13 crore.  

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry told that the decision was taken at a meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee attended by officers from 4 states & union territories. Moreover the houses sanctioned in the meeting are proposed to be constructed under Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) & Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) verticals of PMAY-U. HUA Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra said, "The demand for sanction has saturated in all States/UTs and work must be done expeditiously towards completing all the projects within stipulated time".

The ministry said, "With this, the total number of sanctioned houses under PMAY-U is now 113.06 lakh; out of which 85.65 lakh have been grounded for construction & over 51 lakh have been completed & delivered to the beneficiaries”.

The secretary also asked the states & union territories to participate enthusiastically in ''PMAY (U) Awards -100 Days Challenge''.

The government has developed a mobile-based housing app to apply under the PM Awas Yojana Grameen.

  • This app can be downloaded from the Google’s Play Store.

  • After downloading this App, you will need to create a log-in ID with the help of your mobile number. 

  • The app will send a one-time password (OTP) to your registered mobile number.

  • Fill in the required information, which is being asked after logging in.

  • After applying for a house under the PMAY-G, the Central Government elects the beneficiaries.

  • The final list of the beneficiaries is then put on the official website of PMAY-G.

  • The benefit of PMAY was earlier only for poorer sections. But, now the amount of home loans has been increased to bring poor & middle class of the urban areas under its ambit. Initially, the home loan amount in the PMAY was Rs 2 to Rs 6lakh, which was subsidized on the interest, now it has been increased to Rs 18lakh. 

Scope of PM Awas Yojana

  • ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban)- Housing for All’ Mission for the urban area will be implemented during 2015-2022 & this Mission will provide the Central Assistance to implementing agencies through the States & UTs for providing houses to all the eligible farmers/beneficiaries by the year 2022.

  • The Mission will be implemented as the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) expect for component of Credit Linked Subsidy, which will be implemented as the Central Sector Scheme.

  • The Family of the beneficiary will comprise of husband, wife, and unmarried son/unmarried daughter. They should not own a pucca house either in his/her name or in the name of any of the member of his/her name in any part of India. 

  • The Mission with its entire component has become effective from the date 17/06/15 & it will be implemented up to 31/03/2022.

  • The scope of the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme for the EWS/LIG component was extended to provide the housing subsidy to MIG category. CLSS for the Mobile Income Group has been launched & made operational. The scheme has approved initially, for one year in 2017 and has been extended up to 31/03/2021.
