Many people in this modern society still consider girls as a burden on parents and say they cannot become engineers. But breaking all such stereotypes, two girls - Simran of Hasangarh village in Rohtak & Kajal of Indachoi village in Fatehabad have scored 99.47 percent and 99.31 percent respectively in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains conducted for admission to engineering colleges across India.

Daughters of small and marginal farmers, the two girls are among 46 of the 48 students enrolled in Haryana government's ‘Super-100 programme’.

While talking to HT, Simran said clearing the JEE mains is like a dream come true but it is the JEE Advanced exam that she is actually aiming for. She said, “I had studied from a government school in our village till Class X and secured over 90 percent. My father is a farmer and owns less than 2 acres and had met with an accident a few years back. He was paralysed for sometime but still managed to provide me & my siblings with good education. Now I hope to get into a good IIT & become a computer science engineer and support my family".

On the other hand, Kajal, who gave all credit of her success to the ‘Super 100 programme’ that gives free coaching to the underprivileged students told that “I had read about the Joint Entrance Examination exams in the newspapers & dreamt of cracking it. After coming here, my teachers boosted my confidence & guided me about the exam.”

Kajal said that she wants to pursue her graduation from IIT and then provide free coaching to poor or deprived children. She told, “There is a lot of difference in the education given to students at the village level & in the Super 100 programme. And I want to pay forward what I got. I am thankful to the government of Haryana & Naveen sir (head of the programme) for giving us this unique coaching & a chance to realize our dreams".

Kajal’s father Shubhcharan Malik said that he is a proud father as his daughter scored such good marks in the exam. He said I only studied till Class XII and Kajal’s mother studied till Class VIII. But the employees at Government Model Senior Secondary School of Indachoi village helped my daughter to solve her doubts whenever required.
