Delhi’s Own Food Bus - A Double Decker Dining Experience

Food Trucks are a type of restaurant that provides great food and also comfortable seating on wheels. The food truck business is popular in Spain, Greece, Poland, Croatia, Latvia, Sweden, Romania, Italy, Germany, France, US, etc. 

Food trucks have started appearing in the 19th century and it was reported that Goulash Trucks appeared during the First and Second World Wars. But after the war was finished they all disappeared from the streets. It was in the late 1960s that a farmer Max Hertel built a food truck in a Volkswagen Bus. He invented a grill and used to sell grilled chicken. 

The last half of the 20th Century is seeing a surge in food trucks and carts all over Western cities and countries. Jean Meritan, the Pizza Man brought the first food truck in Europe and it appeared in France. He had a Woodfire Oven to make Pizzas in his truck and it was supposedly lip-smacking. There are over 150 mobile restaurants in Bucharest and Italian cities are flooded with food trucks, carts, and trailers since the last half of the 20th century. 

It must be noted that as per new rules, all Restaurants bills must have FSSAI License Number from October.

A restaurant named "Food Bus of India" has been opened inside a double-decker bus in front of Delhi's Rajendra Nagar metro station. The idea of Food Bus resembles the way street food across in Europe are available in buses. The idea and execution took nearly 2 years. The bus is a unique platform where food is cooked and also served in busy streets inside a food truck. Hospitality partners Surjit Singh and Sukhraj Singh are the curators and founders of the special dining experience.  

At present this is a pilot project, there are plans to open more such restaurants in the coming time. Keeping in mind the common people, the rate of food available in the restaurant has been kept reasonable. Keeping in mind the diversity of people in Delhi, food ranges from a simple meal to a handmade pizza topped with freshly ground spices and veggies. 

Covid 19 has actually resulted in a dynamic change in how customers are reluctant towards dining experiences visiting hotels and this could be a welcome change to them to come out of their homes to experience a totally different dining experience. Safety and Hygiene is kept priority at Food Bus India.
