‘Extremely Heavy Rainfall’ Alert in Coastal Areas; J&K, Himachal Pradesh Receives Fresh Spell of Snowfall

Weather India: The Indian Meteorological Department has reported ‘Extremely Heavy Rainfall’ over coastal areas (peninsular India) during the next 24 hours and alerted fishermen to stay away from sea-shore. It said that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are also likely over east and peninsular India during the next 48 hours. On the other hand, some parts of J&K and the Himalayan region has experienced fresh spell of snowfall and overlapped with a wintery veil since yesterday.  

“In view of the persistence of an anti-cyclonic circulation in the lower troposphere level over northwest India, gradual reduction in moisture in the lower & mid-troposphere levels and reduction in rainfall, southwest monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of Punjab, Haryana and north Rajasthan yesterday, the 09th October 2019. Conditions are becoming favorable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from some more parts of northwest India during the next 2 days and from remaining parts of northwest India and adjoining Central India during subsequent 2-3 days”, said the weather department in its morning bulletin. 

As per yesterday’s report, many places over North Interior Karnataka and Gangetic West Bengal; at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, Rayalaseema, Odisha and northeastern region observed rainfall along with thunderstorm. 

Isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Assam & Meghalaya witnessed heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm. 

Maximum temperatures were reported above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Kerala & Mahe; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. On the other hand, minimum temperature departures as on 09-10-2019: Minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, and West Uttar Pradesh.
