Farm Laws: Bhupinder Singh Mann Opts out of SC appointed Committee

Farmers are protesting against the farm laws for more than a month and the Supreme Court has formed a committee for that. BKU President Bhupinder Singh opts out of the committee.

Farmers Protest: Thousands of farmers are protesting against the farm laws for more than a month and to solve the matte, Supreme Court has formed a committee. Bhartiya Kisan Union President Bhupinder Singh Singh Mann has withdrawn his name from the four-member committee on Agriculture Act constituted by the Supreme Court. 

He said, “I have taken this decision keeping in mind the questions raised by the farmers and the sentiments of the people. Bhupinder Singh Mann added, “I am recusing myself from the committee and I will always stand with my farmers and Punjab.”

Who is Bhupinder Singh Mann? 

Bhupinder Singh Mann has been working for the farmers for a long time. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the President in 1990. He was very active during the Captain Government of Punjab from 2002 to 2007. In 1966, Bhupinder Singh Mann was also the founder member of the Farmer Friends Association, which later became the State Level Agricultural Organization. And presently, Bhupinder Singh Mann is the National President of Bharatiya Kisan Union.

Committee Members Constituted by Supreme Court 

The four members constituted by the Supreme court are: Bhupinder Singh Mann (President of BKU), Anil Ghanwat (President of Shetkari Sangthana, Maharashtra), Pramod Kumar Joshi (Director of South Asia International Food Policy Research Institute), and Ashok Gulati (Agricultural Economist). The committee is expected to hold a dialogue with farmers and submit its report within two months.  

However, farmers have already rejected the committee stating that committee members are already in the favour of Agricultural laws
