To promote Agri and rural media across India, Krishi Jagran has always been active in coming up with new concepts. This time, with the goal of empowering farmers and the rural community by providing a forum for them to record and disseminate their issues, worries, and achievements through Farmer The Journalist.

The concept for Farmer The Journalist was developed by Krishi Jagran to build a platform for farmers to train for the skills required to be an agri journalist. The initiative's main goal is to help farmers rediscover their inner journalists while also providing support for rural citizens who wish to work in journalism and tell their own stories about life in rural India.

Through FTJ, farmers can share their views, problems, and stories from their state with the rest of the country. Krishi Jagran amplifies these voices by sharing them on its platform in the form of articles, YouTube videos, etc.

“Krishi Jagran started with the motive to be the voice for farmers. As we started getting involved with the farmer community, we realized there aren’t enough trained minds within the farming community to reflect their thoughts and feelings to the media sector. To resolve that problem, we started Farmer the Journalist initiative where we train the best talents from the farming community to be a journalist. We especially include the young generation because now we have technology like smartphones that enable farmers to capture videos of their practices and problems even if they are not able to write. Through the FTJ initiative, farmers will be the journalist and use their trained skillsets to disseminate knowledge to every nook and corner of the world,” says M C Dominic, Editor-in-Chief of Krishi Jagran, explaining the vision for FTJ.

About Farmer The Journalist Training Sessions:

FTJ sessions are interactive sessions conducted by Shruti Nigam Joshi, Senior Journalist at Krishi Jagran, and Coordinator Aisha Rai. To make sure the farmers are comfortable and get the best out of the session, we make sure the session is conducted in their language. During each informative session, farmers are trained on the following aspects of agri journalism:

  • How to make video content?

  • What are the guidelines for shooting FTJ video content?

  • What type of content to make?

  • What topics to cover for Farmer The Journalist?

  • How to interview farmers and scientists?

Perks of Being a Member of FTJ:

  • Farmers will receive an authentic letter from Krishi Jagran after they successfully become a member of Farmer The Journalist. The letter will permit you to enter your nearest KVK or ICAR institution.

  • Farmers will receive a monetary reward per video that will be published on the Krishi Jagran platform.

  • Farmers who share the success stories, and agriculture-related issues from their area with Krishi Jagran will get the opportunity to get their stories taken to the government.
