Food Safety & Drug Administration to Launch Campaign Against Food Adulteration in Lucknow

The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) is preparing to begin an implementation and awareness campaign in Lucknow with the objective of earning the top place in the Eat Right Challenge -2 programme after placing fifth nationally in the Eat Right Challenge - 1 programme.

A campaign to maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene in Lucknow will soon be launched by FSDA authorities. As a result, authorities will take strict action against food outlets, restaurants, and hotels that sell contaminated goods while conducting surprise raids to monitor the quality of the food.

According to authorities, everyone selling food products in the city would also need a license.

In the Pan-India Eat Right Challenge, Varanasi and Indore took top place, followed by Bhopal in second and Vadodara and Ujjain in third. In the rankings released on June 8, Lucknow came in fifth, followed by Bhubaneshwar on the fourth place.

It is based on three main themes: the first is if it’s not safe, it’s not food’ (safe food), the second –food should not only serve the taste but is also meant for body and mind (healthy diets) and the third theme is –food has to be beneficial both for people and the planet’ (sustainable diets).”

FSDA inspectors have been instructed to enhance their monitoring and Collected food samples. More food licences would be given to Stalls in order to regulate the selling of food products. The FSSDA awarded 1,474 permits between April 1 and June 30, and 7,610 food Stalls were registered during that time. By September 30, it is now planned to issue 1,200 permits and register 3,000 food stands.

Food establishments, beverage retailers, and traders will also get education on the Eat Right Challenge as well as information on how to keep their places clean, obtain licences, and complete registrations on time.
