On the occasion of Teacher's Day on Monday, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi announced the development and upgradation of 14,500 schools across the nation under the Pradhan Mantri Schools For Rising India (PM-SHRI) Yojana.

He said the schools will be furnished with the latest infrastructure including labs, smart classrooms, libraries, and sports facilities.

"Today, on #TeachersDay I am glad to announce a new initiative - the development and upgradation of 14,500 schools across India under the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) Yojana. These will become model schools which will encapsulate the full spirit of NEP," he said in a series of tweets.

"The PM-SHRI schools will have a modern, transformative, and all-encompassing approach to educating students. The focus will be on a discovery-oriented, learning-centric way of teaching. Additionally, modern infrastructure, such as the latest technology, smart classrooms, sports, and more, will be emphasized "Modi said

The Prime Minister noted that the National Education Policy has recently changed the educational sector and said, "I am confident that the PM-SHRI schools would continue to benefit lakhs of students across India in the spirit of NEP."

The centrally sponsored scheme will be put into action by improving current schools selected among those run by the central government, states, union territories, and local bodies.

PM-SHRI Schools will serve as model schools, display every aspect of the National Education Policy 2020, act as exemplar schools and also offer mentorship to other schools in their locality.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, "the aim of these schools will not only be qualitative teaching, learning, and cognitive growth but also generating holistic and well-rounded persons equipped with crucial 21st-century skills."
