Government Will Pay Rs 5000 for Rescuing Road Crash Victims; Check Details

In an attempt to reduce the number casualties in Road accidents in India, the government will reward “good samaritans” who assist road crash victims in a fatal crash cases & rush them to hospitals within “golden Hour” with Rs 5000 and an appreciation letter

In an attempt to reduce the number casualties in Road accidents in India, the government will reward “good samaritans who assist road crash victims in a fatal crash cases & rush them to hospitals within “golden Hour” with Rs 5000 and an appreciation letter. They will also be eligible for a cash prize of Rs 1 Lakh which will be given to 10 such Samaritans in a year.  

The golden hour is identified as the time period lasting one hour following a traumatic injury during which there is the highest likelihood of preventing death by providing prompt medical care. 

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways wrote to all states & union territories on Monday informing them of the new scheme, which will come into effect from October 15, 2021 till March 2026. 

The categories of accidents that will make one eligible for the award will include those that result in a major surgery or minimum 3 days of hospitalization or brain & spinal cord injuries.  

Road Accident scenario In India: 

India ranks first for the number of road accidents globally. More than 1.5 lakh people are killed and more than 4.5 Lakh are crippled annually in 4.5 lakh road accidents. Casualties caused due to road accidents every year are more dangerous than Covid-19.  Therefore, it was seen & observed that there is need to motivate general public through cash rewards & certificates to help the road accident victims in emergency situation and to boost their morale and also to inspire and motivate others to save lives of the victims.  

The Award will be Rs 5000 per victim saved and if more than one bystander is involved then the prize will be distributed equally among them. Every cash award will be accompanied with a certificate of appreciation. An individual can be awarded a maximum 5 times a year. 

In order to get the related data for the reward, the ministry will start a new portal, where every month the details of the name, address, mobile number, incident information, etc. of the citizen helping the injured will be entered on the portal by the district administration. Local police or Hospital trauma center staff will also be able to upload this information on the portal.
