Government has officially included bio-stimulant products in Schedule VI of the Fertiliser (Control) Order, 1985 and has directed all State and Union Territory (UT) Governments to take necessary action for implementation.
In an official communication from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, it was stated that the government had issued notification SO No. 3922(E) dated 12.09.2024, listing 11 bio-stimulants under Schedule VI of the Fertiliser (Control) Order (FCO).
As per Clause 7/8 of the FCO, 1985, it is now mandatory for manufacturers, wholesalers, dealers, and retailers engaged in the sale of fertilisers, including bio-stimulants, to obtain an authorization letter. State governments have been directed to issue these authorization letters to ensure compliance.
With this move, bio-stimulants—widely used to enhance plant growth and productivity—will now be subject to stricter regulations similar to other fertilisers. The government aims to streamline the sector, ensuring quality control and standardization of bio-stimulant products in the market.
State governments have been urged to act swiftly to facilitate the implementation of this directive.
