Haritha Mitra AWARD to Kanha Shanti Vanam

India's National Forest Policy 1988 aims at maintaining 33 per cent of the geographical area under forest and tree cover. Still the geographical area under green cover stands at ~25% after almost 3 decades. In direction of this concern, Government of Telangana has been working efficiently and has now come up with its program “Haritha Haram”. "Haritha Haram” which means Green garland is a flagship programme of the Government of Telangana State, with the aim to increase the green coverage from the present 24 percent to 33 percent of the total Geographical area of the state. The Haritha Haram was formally launched by the Honourable CM, Shri Chandra Sekhar Rao of Telangana State on July 3.2015. Kanha Shanti Vanam, an ashram is a one of a kind place that brings forth a unique blend of a blissfully serene Spiritual Retreat and a well-planned lifestyle supported by modern infrastructure. In recognition of the excellent work done by the Kanha Shanti Vanam to the fulfilment of the ambitious forest development project outside the notified forest area of the state, Shriram Chandra Mission Kanha Shanti Vanam, near Chegur village of Ranga Reddy district of the state was awarded the prestigious HarithaMitra(Green Friend ) award for the year 2016. On the occasion of the Independent Day celebration on August 15, 2017 at the police Ground ,Gachibowli , Hyderabad, the Honourable Deputy CM, Shri Mohamed Mahmood Ali awarded the Representative of SRCM who received a small memento, certificate and Rs 100,000 in cash which will go to the green Kanha initiative. It is imperative to make a mention here that Government of Telangana particularly Forest and soil and water conversation department was very helpful for the development of Kanha Shanti Vanam.
