Weather Update: After a delay of more than one month, the Southwest monsoon has finally commenced its withdrawal on 10th October (Thursday). The monsoon 2019 has remained the longest season ever.

According to Skymet Weather (private weather forecaster), the monsoon will now start withdrawing from the Northwest & Central parts of India including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand & Chhattisgarh in the 3rd week of October.

On the other hand, the air quality in the National Capital, which, as of now, is moderate, is expected to worsen if monsoon withdrawal from northwest India stretches to the end of October, according to weather officials. An official said that “The late monsoon withdrawal is not good for air quality in North India. In the third to fourth week of October, the temperature will also start to cool”. Weather in Delhi will remain cloudy on Friday with chances of light rainfall in the weekend. Likewise Eastern part of Uttar Pradesh can also witness scattered rainfall on Friday.

Heavy rainfall & thunderstorms are likely over Maharashtra, Goa, interior Karnataka, Kerala & Tamil Nadu. The Indian Metrological Department has predicted more rainfall for Mumbai including Pune till today (11 October 2019). Heavy showers also lashed West Bengal since Wednesday, leading to water-logging and affecting traffic movement. Many parts of Himachal Pradesh experienced moderate to heavy rainfall with light snowfall at higher reaches of Lahaul & Spiti.

The Skymet meteorologists have also predicted more showers in Mumbai, mostly patchy in nature for another 24 - 48 hours. A good amount of rainfall would be recorded in the evening or night hours. After 2 days of this rainy episode, the weather in Mumbai city would start clearing up and slowly turn dry.

The weather department has also predicted scattered to fairly-widespread showers with isolated heavy falls likely in Northeast States mainly Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram during the next 12 hours & over South Peninsular India during next two days.
