Dharti Mitr is an award given by ORGANIC INDIA every year to encourage organic farmers for their valuable contribution in the field of agriculture, ecology and the well being of society.

After the grand success of Dharti Mitr 2017 and 2018 where top four organic farmers of the country were rewarded at Organic World Congress, the ORGANIC INDIA proudly announces Dharti Mitr 2019. Dharti Mitr is an award given by ORGANIC INDIA every year to encourage organic farmers for their valuable contribution in the field of agriculture, ecology and the well being of society.

The award will recognise the outstanding efforts of three individual organic farmers by giving them a cash award and a citation on 7th November 2019 in BIOFACH INDIA, 2019 at India Expo Centre, IEML, Greater Noida, Delhi-NCR.

Dharti Mitr 2019 invites applications from organic farmers all across India who, through their farming practices, are helping to revive India’s agricultural landscapes, communities and food systems. And as a result are contributing to the wellbeing of Mother Earth and society at large.

The three finalists, who will be selected by a multi-disciplinary jury, will receive the following prizes for their inspiring efforts:

First Prize: Rs.5 lakh

Second Prize: Rs.3 lakh

Third Prize: Rs.2 lakh

Who can apply?

  • Individual practicing organic farming

  • Institutions, state Governments, agricultural universities, civil society organizations, organic farming promotion agencies, organic farming research institutions/ centers, ICAR institutes, organic farming federations/ associations can also nominate or recommend outstanding individual organic farmer with full justification as per the template provided.

What is the Eligibility?

Individual farmers who have been practicing organic farming for the last five years or more, across their entire farm holding, are eligible to apply for this award. Note that this is only applicable for Indian citizens.

Assessment criteria

Applicants will be assessed on a wide array of criteria including yield, ecological regeneration, use of innovative practices, creation of market linkages and motivation of others to do farming in an organic way.

What is the selection process?

The selection will be done in three phases:

  • Initial screening - All applications and nominations received by the 3rd October 2019 will be screened for their suitability as per the details provided in the application form. An experts committee comprising of members from organic fraternity with enrich experience & knowledge will screen the short listed nominees and zeroed down to a group of most outstanding organic farmers.

  • Second round - Physical verification of the farming practices and innovativeness of the selected farmers will be undertaken by the expert committee.

  • Final round - Those farmers who clear the second round will be invited to a final presentation to the jury.

How to apply?

The fully completed application forms must be sent with all supporting documents like photographs, certificates, awards or appreciations to ORGANIC INDIA’s office before 3rd October 2019. The mailing address is as follows:
