It's nearly the end of February, and temperatures in various parts of the country have begun to soar above normal signaling the end of the winter season. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected rainfall in as many as 15 states and union territories (UTs) under the influence of a cyclonic circulation and two western disturbances in its most latest bulletin.

The Met Department further predicts that on February 19 and 20, Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh will see strong surface winds ranging from 25 to 35 kmph. Furthermore, the IMD bulletin stated that the minimum temperature in most parts of the country is likely to stay constant for the next five days, until February 23.

Notably, the IMD predicts that both day and night temperatures in the national capital will continue to rise and remain above average for the rest of the week.

The following are the top five IMD advisories for rainfall, snowfall and surface winds over the next five days:

A cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjacent Arabian Sea has projected significant rainfall in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands till February 20. In addition, the UT is expected to have isolated thunderstorms or lightning on February 19. During the next 24 hours, the area may experience strong surface winds of 30-40kmph. However, conditions will improve after February 20.

Between February 19 & 22, Arunachal Pradesh is anticipated to receive scattered to fairly widespread, light to moderate rainfall. On February 20 and 21, the same weather alert has been issued for Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, and Nagaland. On February 20, Arunachal Pradesh may witness isolated heavy rainfall on February 20 as well.

The IMD bulletin predicts isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim until February 23. The same condition is likely over Odisha on February 20, and over Gangetic West Bengal on February 20 and 21.

The western Himalayan area is expected to get isolated, light rain or snowfall during the next 24 hours due to a western influence. The same disturbance may cause isolated light rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and west Rajasthan during the same time period.

On February 22 and 24, the western Himalayan area is likely to have scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, as well as isolated thunderstorms or lightning, due to another western disturbance and its induced cyclonic circulation. On February 22, a similar weather alert has been issued for Punjab.

On February 19 and 20, the Met Department predicts strong surface winds of 25-35 kmph across Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Chandigarh.
