Since February, Northeast states like Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and especially Arunachal Pradesh, have witnessed precipitation levels soaring above seasonal averages.

As the capital city of Delhi experiences relatively stable weather conditions with temperatures ranging between 25°C and 13°C, coupled with moderate humidity and satisfactory air quality, a starkly different scenario unfolds in Northeast India. Here, downpour challenges the norms of daily life, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a cautionary alert for an extended period of wet weather. The focus is particularly on Arunachal Pradesh, where a cyclonic circulation lingers over east Assam and neighboring areas.

The region, encompassing states like Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and especially Arunachal Pradesh, has witnessed precipitation levels soaring above seasonal averages since the onset of February. The latest forecast from the IMD paints a picture of continued precipitation across the Northeast, with Arunachal Pradesh expected to bear the brunt of the upcoming weather system.

Over the next 6-7 days, starting yesterday, isolated to scattered rainfall and snowfall of light to moderate intensity are anticipated to blanket the region. Additionally, neighboring states such as Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are slated to experience light to moderate showers on Wednesday, as the atmospheric disturbance persists.

In response to these projections, the IMD has issued a yellow watch, urging residents of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya to remain vigilant and plan their activities accordingly. This advisory, while not indicating extreme weather conditions, emphasizes the need for awareness amidst the ongoing meteorological fluctuations.

For the inhabitants of Northeast India, life amidst the rain is a delicate balancing act, where everyday routines must often yield to the whims of the weather. From farmers tending to their crops in waterlogged fields to commuters navigating treacherous roads, the impact of the ongoing rainfall reverberates through every aspect of daily life.
