Strengthen Veterinary Services in India, Says Union Minister Parshottam Rupala

With a focus on improving veterinary services, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying strive to foster a sustainable and prosperous future for the livestock and poultry industry in the country.

The Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala, led the Inter-Session Meeting of the Consultative Committee attached to his Ministry in Srinagar on Friday, May 02, 2023.

The focus of the meeting was on ‘Enhancing Veterinary Services with Mobile Units and Implementing Vaccination Program in the country.’ It was attended by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, along with Members of Parliament and members of the Parliament Consultative Committee.

During the meeting, Parshottam Rupala emphasized the significance of India's abundant livestock and poultry resources, highlighting their crucial role in improving the socio-economic conditions of rural communities. He stressed the need for the department to proactively enhance the availability and accessibility of high-quality veterinary health services to minimize economic losses caused by animal diseases.

The Members of Parliament commended the Department for its efforts in establishing Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) with 100% central assistance, introducing a uniform toll-free number, 1962. They also provided valuable suggestions to enhance the current veterinary services, which were taken into consideration by the Minister.

Parshottam Rupala assured the Committee that the Department would take appropriate action based on the suggestions put forth by the members. The meeting highlighted the importance of reinforcing veterinary services in India and ensuring that livestock and poultry are protected from diseases through effective vaccination programs.

By strengthening the veterinary infrastructure and promoting accessibility, the government aims to improve the overall health and productivity of animals, thus positively impacting the livelihoods of rural communities.
