These States on High Alert as 'Maha' Likely to Intensify into Severe Cyclonic Storm in Next 24 Hours

Cyclone Maha is now moving north-northwestwards around 325 km away from Kerala and is expected to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm by today (1 November 2019). Due to this weather system, parts of Goa and Maharashtra will experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms for the next two days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow watch and warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, south Konkan & Goa till Saturday. A yellow watch from the weather department suggests to 'be updated' about the possible heavy rainfall. It further said that as cyclone Maha will move away from India tonight, the possibility of rainfall will also decrease during the weekend.

Heavy rainfall will also occur in many parts of Lakshadweep, while light to moderate showers will take place in some parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the next 24 hours. Fishing has totally been suspended over the South East Arabian Sea & along Karnataka and Kerala coast today & East Central Arabian Sea till Monday.

IMD officials in Chennai said that there are signs of formation of another low-pressure area in the North Andaman Sea by 4th November 2019, that could start moving towards the coast of mainland India. So far, Tamil Nadu has received 26% more rainfall because of the prevailing North East Monsoon.

Extreme rainfall last month have reportedly damaged crops in over 17 lakh hectares in Maharashtra state. While water-logging has been affecting the harvest-ready crops, too much of moisture content is fetching lesser prices for the harvested crop.

Talking about weather in Delhi, the National capital is facing very severe pollution due to stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana hence the sky continues to remain overcast. The Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority has also extended the ban on night-time construction in the city and surrounding regions like Ghaziabad, Gurgaon & Noida till Saturday.
