The low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea persists. Associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels which is very likely to concentrate into a Depression over central parts of south Bay of Bengal on 15th May and further intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal by 16th evening. It is very likely to move northwestwards initially till 17th and then re-curve north-northeastwards. Under its influence Squally weather conditions with wind speed of the order of up to 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely to prevail over south & central Bay of Bengal on 15th, 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph on 16th and 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph on 17th over the same area, says the weather forecast of Indian Meteorological Department.

Scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers Likely over Western Himalayan region & Northwest India during next 2 days

Under the influence of Western Disturbance, scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers likely over Western Himalayan region and isolated to scattered over plains of Northwest India during next 2 days. Isolated thunderstorm accompanied with hail, gusty winds & lightning is also likely over these regions during the same period.

Rain/Thundershowers Lightning and Gusty Winds (30-40 kmph) Likely over south peninsular India during next 3-4 days

Due to trough/wind discontinuity, scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely over south peninsular India during next 3-4 days. Heavy rainfall also likely at isolated places over Kerala during next 4 days; over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on 14th and 17th; over South Interior Karnataka on 16th & 17th; and over Lakshadweep on 15th & 16th May, 2020.

Northeastern States Continue to Experience scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers during next 4 days

Northeastern states are likely to continue to experience scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers during next 4 days. Isolated to scattered rain/thundershowers also likely over adjoining Eastern states during this period. Isolated heavy rain very likely over Assam & Meghalaya on 14th, 16th & 17th; over Arunachal Pradesh on 16th; and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on 14th May, 2020.

As per yesterday’s report, rain/thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.

Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and South Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over Gujarat while minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra and South Interior Karnataka.
