After receiving excessive rainfall in January, the start of February is going to be wetter for Kolkata. From today onwards, the capital city of Kolkata might need to gear up for a good rainfall for a few days.

The weather system is not at large as of now and that's why the cold north-westerlies are bringing changes in the temperatures. Yesterday morning, the minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 12 degrees Celsius while the maximum was 24.5 degrees Celsius.

According to Skymet Weather, the rains are going to start from February 5 and will last on 8th February. A confluence zone might be formed wherein cold north-westerlies will unite with humid winds coming from the Bay of Bengal. The rains will start with lighter intensity but will gradually intensify by the 7th of February. Thunderstorms and lightning bolts are also expected in the city with heavy rain spells till the 7th of February. By 8th February, the intensity of the rain will be reduced.

This is going to be the first rain spell of the month of February for Kolkata. After this spell, more rounds of rainfall are expected. The city might exceed the monthly average rainfall of February.

Skymet Weather also predicts that the weather will remain pleasant in the first 15 days of February and the second half will start heating up. By the end of the month, the weather will slightly turn hotter. These rains might also affect the sowing and harvesting of winter crops in the state. There are chances that these rains will affect the prices of fruits and vegetables in the local markets.
