Weather Update: Western Disturbance in North India to Bring More Snow & Rain

A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) over north India could bring more snow and rain today. In Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, moderate to heavy snow or rain is likely. Uttarakhand may experience isolated snow. The WD will follow an eastward trajectory and gradually weaken.

A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) over north India could bring more snow and rain today. In Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, moderate to heavy snow or rain is likely. Uttarakhand may experience isolated snow. The WD will follow an eastward trajectory and gradually weaken.  

However, cloudy conditions are likely to prevail in Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh. Other regions in the north, central and northeastern India will be blanketed by isolated dense fog and rest of the country is predicted to remain dry. 

Over northern Punjab and most of the northeastern states, maximum temperatures will be a bit lower than normal, owing to northwesterly winds. Though, conditions will be warmer than normal in the south. Night-time temperatures in northern India will be average or warmer than normal. 

The air quality in major cities across India, especially in Delhi, will be on a downward spiral. The quality of the air will remain under the poor to very poor category. 

Thursday & Beyond: 

Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to witness isolated rain. Sikkim will get rain on Thursday evening. Friday, will witness a fresh western disturbance, more powerful than the current one which will affect north India. Widespread snow or rain with a chance of thunderstorms is forecast over Jammu & Kashmir and neighboring states. 

Due to the influence of WD, snow or rain will continue over the northern parts of central and north India over the weekend and into next week. 

Tamil Nadu will continue to experience cloudy conditions. Isolated dense fog will cover northern, central and Northeastern India. However, the rest of the country is expected to remain dry. 

Later on this week, an anti-cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, will cause southerly flows and bring warmer temperatures in Rajasthan and neighboring states during the weekend. 

Maximum temperatures will be average or warmer than normal in northeastern and southern India. Night-time temperature in northeastern India is forecast to be a bit warmer than normal.
