  • Coffee Board Takes e- Commerce Route to Promote Pure Indian Coffees

    The government-run Coffee Board has gone the e-commerce route to promote pure Indian coffees. Recently, the Board began marketing about six variants of pure coffees under the India Coffee and Coffees of India brands, including GI-tagged coffees from Coorg & Chikkamagaluru, on the e-commerce platform Amazon. It is also planning to launch these products on platforms such as Flipkart and Meesho. According to Coffee Board officials, the main goal of this latest initiative is to popularise pure coffees across the country and increase visibility so that farmers' share of consumer spend increases.

  • UP Agri Minister Urges Railway Minister to Cut Station Delays to Ensure Timely Urea Supply

    According to the state minister, transportation of DAP fertiliser and urea takes 8-10 days from port to station, and there are many stations where the supply of urea is halted due to restrictions. On Wednesday, Surya Pratap Shahi met with Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw. The Union Minister has also promised to reduce the time it takes for urea fertiliser to reach its destination. According to Surya Pratap Shahi, Uttar Pradesh is an agricultural state with 140 lakh hectares of rabi crops and 26 lakh hectares of sugarcane, both of which use urea. Following a meeting with the Railway Minister, a request was made in this context.

  • PM Kisan Latest Update: Government to Take Action Against Erring Officials

    The Assam government will now take strict action against officers involved in irregularities in distributing benefits of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in the state. The decision comes after the Gauhati High Court directed Himanta Biswa Sarma government to take appropriate action against such officials. The Assam government had previously informed the high court that almost 12 lakh ineligible farmers got the benefits under PM Kisan scheme. A division bench comprising Chief Justice R M Chhaya along with Justice Soumitra Saikia after hearing a public interest lawsuit filed by NGO Amguri Naba Nirman Samity asked the Assam government to initiate "appropriate action" against the erring officials.

  • Himachal Introduces Two High-Yielding Wheat Varieties- ‘DBW 222’ & ‘DBW 187’

    The high-yielding wheat varieties DBW 222 and DBW 187 produce 60 quintals per hectare, compared to 35-37 quintals for existing varieties. Around 23,000 quintal seeds of these two varieties have been distributed to farmers at a 50% subsidy, according to Rajiv Minhas, a subject matter specialist at the Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Department. DBW222 (Karan Narendra) has high rust resistance and lodging tolerance, as well as better agronomic characteristics and adaptation to sowing time. In contrast, DBW 187 (Karan Vandana) is rich in protein and iron.

  • PMFBY to Cover Crop Loss: Min Rs. 1000 to be Paid Per Claim In Maharashtra

    The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), the third largest crop insurance program in the world, is expected to overtake other programs in the coming years as more than 5 crore farmer applications are submitted each year. Farmers have become more accepting of the program over the past six years, with the percentage of non-loanee, marginalized, and small farmers rising by 282% since the program's launch in 2016. Farmers have paid a total of Rs 25,186 crores in premiums over the past six years, of which Rs 1,25,662 crores have been paid to farmers in response to their claims as of October 31, 2022. The majority of the premium is covered by the Central and State Governments under the scheme.
