FICCI, in collaboration with Innovate UK, the United Kingdom's innovation agency, is organising a programme titled "Transforming Foundation Industries" from January 16-20, 2023, in Liverpool and Coventry, UK, to address sustainability challenges faced by Foundation Industries across the UK and India through collaborative development and adoption of Innovative Technology Solutions.
The Foundation Industries, which include cement, ceramics, paper, metals, bulk chemicals, and glass, contribute £52 billion to the UK economy but face similar challenges as India, such as high raw material and energy consumption, which leads to significant operating costs and environmental impact, including CO2 emissions.
As an industry partner of this programme, FICCI is mobilising Indian companies to participate in a Business Delegation to Liverpool and Coventry, which are home to the UK's thriving Foundation Industries. The visit will allow Indian companies to tour existing FI facilities and meet with UK companies to explore partnership opportunities and prepare them to jointly pitch for a £10 million bilateral funding on sustainability, which is set to launch in January 2023.
The visit will also assist Indian companies in developing relationships with key UK research organizations and developing international partnerships for developing and commercializing innovative ideas/solutions.
Following adopting a 2030 Roadmap for Bilateral Relations (with climate cooperation as a critical pillar) and ongoing discussions on a Free Trade Agreement, the visit may provide Indian companies with an early mover advantage in accessing bilateral funding and forming business partnerships.
The visit will be helpful to Foundation Industries (Large/Medium/Start-ups), Research Organizations, and Companies that provide sustainable solutions to enable energy and resource efficiency through:

Enabling technologies - digital solutions, sensors and controls, heat recovery systems, value-added processes for waste streams

New and more efficient manufacturing processes, as well as new supply chain models
The visit will also provide information on the capabilities of FI's Research and Technology Institutions. The application process for £10 million in bilateral funding and business matching with potential UK innovation partners.
