Renowned Agricultural Scientist LC Soans Passes Away at 89 in Karnataka
Dr Livingston Chandramohan (LC) Soans, an internationally renowned agricultural scientist passed away yesterday. He was 89 and was well-known for Soans Farms in Moodbidri. Born on April 4, 1934, LC Soans is credited with the introduction of exotic plants and fruits to the region. He was renowned for his contribution to horticulture and agriculture especially eco-friendly horticulture, eco-tourism, and value-based cultivation. Soans Farms introduced exotic tropical fruits about five decades ago including varieties like longan, durian, rambutan, mangosteen, malay apple, langsat, dragon fruit, egg fruit, cola nut, diesel tree, abiu, macadamia nut, jaboticaba, miracle fruit to name a few.

Centre May Import Dairy Products Amid Stagnant Milk Output
Milk production in India remained stagnant due to supply constraints caused by lumpy skin disease in cattle and increased domestic demand. The government may import dairy products like butter and ghee if necessary, but will carefully evaluate the stock position and global prices before making a decision. Milk production remained stagnant in the last fiscal year, owing to a constraint in the supply of the products. A top government official stated that the country might be considering importing milk products if needed.

Former Punjab Agriculture Director Acquitted in Pesticide Scandal Corruption Case
Sandhu was a joint director for agriculture, and he was scheduled to retire on April 30, 2014, but he received two one-year extensions, bringing his retirement date to April 30, 2016. He was listed as the acting director of agriculture on his extension. In a 2015 corruption case connected to the Punjab pesticide scandal, former agriculture director Dr. Mangal Singh Sandhu was found not guilty by a Bathinda court; nonetheless, suspects Vijay Kumar and Shubam Goyal, partners of a pesticides dealer company, were given two years in prison each. According to Sandhu's attorney Nand Lal Garg, the absence of proof led to his acquittal.

Govt Remains Optimistic for Record 112 MT Wheat Output Despite Weather Damage
The government has forecasted a record wheat production of 112.18 million tonnes in the 2022-23 crop year (July-June) in spite of damage to crops. In the 2022-23 crop year (July-June), the government has predicted a record wheat production of 112.18 million tonnes. Wheat production had declined marginally to 107.74 million tonnes in the former year due to heat waves in some states.

Farmers Demands Relaxation in Moisture Content Levels as Wheat Starts Arriving in Mandis
In markets and procurement centres of the district, wheat has started arriving but a high moisture content in grains is posing a threat to its procurement. Till the afternoon of April 5, Grain markets and purchase centres witnessed the arrival of around 17,700 quintals of wheat but no procurement has been made so far even after the starting of government procurement on April 1.
