Fuel Price Update May 27: Check the latest Fuel Price Here
On Friday, the OMCs held their diesel and petrol rates steady for the fifth day in a row. On Saturday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a drop in excise duty on petrol of 8 rupees per liter and diesel of 6 rupees per liter. Today's petrol price in Delhi is Rs 96.72 per liter, down from Rs 105.41 per liter last week, while diesel will cost Rs 89.62 per liter, down from Rs 96.67 last week.

The Government is Considering Imposing a Windfall Tax on Oil and Gas Companies
India is exploring a windfall tax on oil and gas companies (both state-owned and private) to offset increasing public expenditure on fuel, food, and fertilizer subsidies amid soaring inflation. A windfall tax is a tax imposed on businesses whose profits have been raised solely by chance or occurrences for which they are not responsible. Energy corporations, for example, have profited from the global surge in energy prices caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The Budget In Uttar Pradesh Focuses on Farmers' Welfare, with Rs 12,800 Crore Being Out for Agriculture
The Yogi Adityanath government, riding high on popular central initiatives like the flagship PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, has made yet another attempt to reach out to farmers by allocating nearly Rs 12,800 crore to the agricultural sector in the state budget for 2022-23. The state budget for 2021-22 was Rs 12,340 crore, which was later lowered to Rs 11,430 crore.

To regulate the state's declining water level, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has urged officials to employ the direct sowing of paddy method on at least 40% of the total land used for paddy sowing in the state.
