  • Fifth round of govt-farmers talks underway in Delhi

    The fifth round of talks between the central government and over 40 farmer leaders from more than 32 farm unions were going on here on Saturday, with indications about the resolution of farmers' demands and grievances.

    Both sides met at the Vigyan Bhavan here at 2 pm to hold further discussions to arrive at a solution to the farmers' protest that has led to traffic chaos on Delhi borders and crippled supply chains to the city.

  • Haryana Minister Vij tests corona positive

    Days after voluntarily taking a test dose of Covid-19 vaccine, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Saturday tested positive for the virus.

    Vij tweeted that he had tested positive for coronavirus and was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantonment, about 50 km from here. On November 20, Vij was given a shot of Bharat Biotech's vaccine 'Covaxin' for which he had volunteered.

  • Eminent India-born US scientist Kapany passes away

    Eminent India-born US scientist and patron of Sikh arts and literature, Narinder Singh Kapany (94), passed away in California on Friday. He is survived by his son and daughter.

    In a condolence message, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said that he was saddened to learn about the death of Kapany, whom he termed as a great philanthropist and the founder of the Sikh Foundation who introduced various aspects and facets of Sikhism globally through several books, artworks and exhibitions, besides working tirelessly for preserving Sikh architectural heritage.

     

  • Punjab minister donates salary for farmers' cause

    Expressing his solidarity, Punjab School Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Saturday donated his one-month salary to the cause of the farmers who are protesting against the central farm laws.

    "These are no ordinary times and so they require extraordinary initiative on all our parts to help our farmers. Stand in solidarity with their just demands, about which I have decided to contribute my one-month's salary for their cause," he said in a statement.

  • Farmers ready to celebrate R-Day at borders if govt doesn't accept demands

    Even as the fifth round of talks between the farmer's leaders and the Central government is still going on, farmers at the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh Ghazipur border vowed to celebrate Republic Day there on January 26 if the government does not accept their demand to repeal the three agri laws and guarantee the minimum support price (MSP).

    Yoginder Singh, a farmer from Bulandshahr in UP, who has been protesting for the last eight days told media agency, "My son Oawan is set to get married tomorrow on December 6. And I am here and will not go home to attend the ceremony as this protest is meant for our future."

  • It's 33C in Raj's Churu, highest in Dec in 17 years

    At a time when North India is witnessing an early setting of a severe winter registering some of the coldest days in October and November in decades, Rajasthan's Churu and Barmer town saw a sudden surge in the mercury, surpassing maximum temperatures in last decade and more.

    On Friday, Churu registered a temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius which was the highest in the last 17 years in December. In 2003, the temperature registered on the same day was 33.5 degree, confirmed met officials.
