Food loss and waste (FLW) in the fisheries sector is a complicated issue with diverse and interconnected causes at various levels. Policymakers, the public and private sectors seek solutions that are not only economically advantageous but also produce or sustain social benefits. This course covers important definitions, causes, and remedies, and a description of three evaluation techniques to allow learners to grasp the relevance of FLW in fish value chains and support decision making for loss and waste prevention and reduction. 

Audience: 

This e-learning course is intended for program officials, technical experts, and extension agents who are involved with the prevention and mitigation of loss and waste. The course is also intended for academics and researchers who wish to learn more about the subject to create research and teach practical courses on food loss and waste in fish value chains.

It gives technical information on these ideas and investigates how the application of CSA practices might improve the mitigation and adaptation to climate change in the sector.

This course is designed particularly for people who have a role in incorporating sustainable practices into the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. 

You will learn: 

  • General information about the fisheries and aquaculture sectors

  • The primary effects of climate change on the sector, as well as their repercussions

  • The rationale behind the CSA methods, as well as the three major subject areas

  • Main climate-smart fisheries and aquaculture responses/measures

  • Climate-smart applications in various situations and lessons learned
