Government is Providing Scholarships of up to Rs. 11000 to Children of Farmers, Fishermen

In order to increase the literacy rate and cut the unemployment rate, Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Minister of Karnataka has announced the extension of 'Raitha Vidya Nidhi' scholarship scheme for the kids of fishermen and weavers.

One of the top priorities of the Central as well as State Governments in India has always been the welfare of the farming community. For this, it has launched many schemes including 'Raitha Vidya Nidhi'.

In order to increase the literacy rate and cut the unemployment rate, Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Minister of Karnataka has announced the extension of 'Raitha Vidya Nidhi' scholarship scheme for the kids of fishermen and weavers.

The Chief Minister while addressing a programme in Udupi district said that "It has been decided to extend the 'Raitha Vidya Nidhi' scholarship scheme for children of fishermen & weavers’ families this year too."

Bommai said the hostel facilities will be given to children of fishermen so as to avoid any kind of disturbance in their higher education. He said, "Hostel facilities will be provided for students from fishermen's families by the Social Welfare department".

The CM also complimented the Centre’s programme to make fishing a profitable business and announced that the state government will provide 100 deep sea fishing boats to the fishermen adding that 5000 houses would be constructed for them under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing scheme. Also, to advance the fishing facilities, desilting work will be taken up at eight ports in the state. Bommai also assured a diesel subsidy to fishermen for the whole ten-month season.

Chief Minister said, "An Anchor Bank will be linked to Women's Self Help Groups (SHG). They will be provided loans up to Rs. 1.50 lakh to take up economic activities to realize the State government's aim of women's empowerment”.

According to an official statement, under Raita Vidya Nidhi scholarship scheme 2022, the Karnataka government will offer scholarships ranging from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 11,000 for higher studies of the children of farmers.

The amount of scholarship money will be directly transferred to the bank account of the beneficiaries.

Raita Vidya Nidhi scholarship scheme was launched on 7 August 2021 by Karnataka Government to provide scholarships to the kids of farmers in the state and to help them to pursue higher education.
