Government has been encouraging farmers towards Solar Energy by initiating different schemes.  Hence, implementing PM Kusum Yojana is an important step to connect the agricultural sector with modern technology. The purpose of this scheme is to bring prosperity in the lives of farmers.

Aiming to reach the target of farmer’s doubling income by 2022, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evem Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) scheme will be expanded to cover 20 lakh farmers across the nation, said the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during her Union Budget speech 2020 on Saturday. The Solar Pump Yojana which promises to fulfill the irrigation and water problems by providing a 60% subsidy to the farmer for setting up pump sets and tube wells was initially intended to cover 17.5 lakh farmers.

Moreover, the scheme which was announced by former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during the Union Budget 2018-19, is all set to run diesel/electric pumps used for irrigation across the country with solar energy where farmers have to spend only 10% of the total expenditure.

Under this scheme, now every farmer will get free electricity which can eradicate many problems. With this, if you make additional electricity and send it to the grid, then it will also earn them.

Actually, farmers in the country have to face a lot of problem in irrigation and due to more or less rain, the crops of farmers get spoiled. Through the Central Government's PM Kusum Yojana, financial assistance is provided for installing solar pumps. After bringing this scheme to the ground level, millions of farmers will get benefit.

In February 2019, the Central Government had approved the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Energy Security and Utthan Mahabhiyan Yojana (Pm Kusum Yojana). Under this scheme, farmers are helped in developing solar energy capacity, so that the income of the farmers can be increased. Along with this, the need of water is met. A target of generating 25,750 MW of power by the year 2022 has also been set through this scheme.

You Need to Pay just 10 Percent

Farmers taking advantage of this scheme have to pay only 10 percent of the total cost on the purchase of solar pumps. The central government will give 30 percent amount in the bank account as subsidy. 30 percent amount will be given as bank loan. Under the scheme, the landowner will get an income of 60 thousand to 1 lakh rupees per acre per year for the next 25 years by installing a solar power plant.
What are the three components of PM Kisan Yojana?

Grid connected renewable energy plant will be installed on decentralized land in Component-A. Component-B will be equipped with solar powered agricultural pumps on a single basis. Component-C includes the provision of grid-connected plants for agricultural pumps.
Big Power Savings

The government believes that if solar energy is used in irrigation pumps, not only will the electricity be saved, but it will also be possible to produce 30, 800 MW additional power.

How to Apply Online?

Farmers will have to visit the government website https://mnre.gov.in/ to get solar pumps under PM Kusum Yojana. After applying here, you have to register yourself. For this, they will also have to provide Aadhaar card, property documents and bank account information.
