Smriti Irani Arranges Certification Framework For Organic Cotton

Smriti Irani, Textile minister on Wednesday launched the 'Kasturi' brand name for Indian cotton and said the administration is working its way for a stage based introduction of a certification framework for organic cotton covering the entire value chain. 

"Textiles Ministry is in the quest of the agenda of cotton farmers and cotton item manufacturers...have sought after with the ministry of commerce and industry a certification framework for organic cotton to be introduced in stages in the entire value chain," Irani said at a virtual occasion composed by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industries, Cotton Corporation of India and The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council.

The minister additionally said the administration is taking a gander at possibilities in rising fields like personal protection equipment (PPE) where cotton can be utilized from across the aspect of specialized materials. 

At the same occasion, Ravi Capoor (Textiles Secretary) said certain 'markers' have been created related to the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) for marking Indian organic cotton, and it is in the last phases.
