India recently banned single-use plastic and today (12 July) we mark International Paper Bag Day.

Paper bags have made their place in world history since 1852 when Francis Wolle invented the first machine to mass-produce paper bags. In 1871, inventor Margaret E.

Knight created a machine that made flat-bottomed paper bags. After this Charles Stilwell created a machine that made square-bottomed paper bags with pleated sides, making it easier to carry and fold them.

Objective of International Paper Bag Day

The main objective of this day is to encourage the use of paper bags over plastic ones.

As many conservationists and environmentalists have shown deep concern about the degradation of this planet with the continuous use of plastic, the paper bag now is the only right choice to make.

With the extensive use of plastic, we have created piles of harmful, difficult to compose and green house generating waste. It has caused us more than one health-related issues and is among the leading cause of pollution.

Benefits of paper bags

Moreover, paper bags have its benefits, for example:

  • Paper bags are recyclable & can decompose in a month.

  • Are pet friendly, unlike plastic which harms their life.

  • Can be used as compost as they are easily recyclable.

  • Can be used multiple times, unlike single use plastic.

  • Can help reduce the pollution caused by plastic.

A lot of us have switched to paper bags and found them to be an alternative to the poisonous plastic but for those who have not, this Paper Bag Day we would like to invite you all to this side of the line.

Where plastic is left untouched and paper is cherished.

Where we fight the cause and accept the solution.
