IIT-Kanpur Inks MoU with NAP Ltd to Achieve New Milestone in Hemp Pharmaceuticals & Bioengineering

Niche Agriculture & Pharmaceuticals Limited and the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur are collaborating to restructure the indigenous cannabis plant and develop new varieties of hemp seeds/cultivars in accordance with international policies and standards.

IIT-Kanpur, India's premier research institute, and Niche Agriculture & Pharmaceuticals Limited, a company engaged in agricultural activities and the formulation of advanced medicines, recently partnered for research on the cultivation of the Indian Holy plant 'Cannabis,' as well as its use in Pharma and bioengineering. This collaboration will centre on research and development as well as consulting studies in areas of mutual interest.

The MoU was signed in the presence of esteemed Senior Professors, Researchers, and other faculty members by Harisharan Devgan, Chairman, Niche Group of Companies, and Prof Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT Kanpur. Niche Agriculture & Pharmaceuticals Limited and the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur are collaborating to restructure the indigenous cannabis plant and develop new varieties of hemp seeds/cultivars in accordance with international policies and standards.

With the passage of time, India has seen an increase in chronic medical conditions such as cancer, epilepsy, migraine, chronic pain, arthritis, and insomnia, to name a few. New Hemp-based formulations will aid doctors in the treatment of such severe medical conditions.

Harisharan Devgan, Chairman of Niche Agriculture & Pharmaceuticals Limited, stated in response to the MoU, "This cooperation with IIT-Kanpur will strengthen our goal to toil towards the exploration of Cannabis plant for the advancement of the healthcare sector." This collaboration will not only provide people with access to a wide range of new medicinal formulations, but it will also provide people with affordable medical treatment for chronic health issues.

We are focusing on strengthening cooperation in the fields of hemp cultivation and bioengineering, as well as implementing technologies such as tissue culture with IIT-Kanpur for research and development, as well as exchanging academic materials and publications for the formulation of hemp-based and other medicines for chronic diseases."

"He is looking forward to this collaboration," said Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT-Kanpur. He went on to say that it will lay the groundwork for better biotech research and development. Cannabis has long been accepted in Indian culture, but we know very little about this sacred plant. Despite its medical benefits, cannabis is widely criticized for its intoxicating properties."

Cannabis has been used in India for over 5000 years and is mentioned in the Atharva Veda. Despite this, cannabis has received a lot of criticism for its mind-altering properties. The cannabis plant, on the other hand, is known for its magical properties. In various cultures and traditions, the use of cannabis is common and its medical properties are also well inscribed in Ayurveda. Nonetheless, the cultivation of cannabis containing more than 0.03 percent THC is prohibited worldwide, according to government regulations.

Niche Agriculture & Pharmaceuticals Limited is interested in developing new medicinal formulations to assist the Indian healthcare sector is evolving. The agreement also calls for the exchange of academic materials and publications, as well as the development of hemp-based and other medicines for chronic diseases.
